TED 5000 - TEACHING AND LEARNING I & II

This sequence of these  two courses promotes a greater understanding of basic educational legal issues, including the regulations surrounding child protection services and mandatory reporting. These courses examine, research, and present projects connected to a chosen historical context of public schooling and education in the United States in order to define and articulate a historical and cultural context and the cultural preferences that inform and shape your perceptions and approach to teaching.  These courses explore the relationships between child development, brain development and learning theories, nurture a greater understanding of education philosophy and theory, as well as a familiarity with influential educators and their corresponding theories on a variety of topics including classroom management, the purpose and goal of education, and instructional methods.

LCRT 5140 – MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION

This course provides an introduction to multicultural education and the sociopolitical issues surrounding the multicultural context of US schools today, including the legal and historical factors of language education related to school policy and practice

LCRT 5055 – LINKING ASSESSMENT WITH INSTRUCTION

This course assists teacher candidates in linking assessment with instruction, in learning how to use a variety of formal and information instruments, and to better understand the assessments within the constructs of schooling.

SPED 5780 – LITERACY INTERVENTIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

In this course we will examine what it takes to be literate, what can interfere with literacy, and how to best support the comprehension and word identification in the classroom. Research in literacy development and instruction will support our investigations of students' interactions using the reading and writing process.
